Your Inside Scoop to the Suits and Styles of the ESPN Monday Night Football Analyst Team

Joe Tessitore – Play by Play Analyst

Joe wore a medium grey tic-weave suit with a grey and white stripe shirt. His tie was dark green and navy and had a generously spaced gold, navy, and grey foulard pattern in it. His pocket square was grey with a white border. The wearing of grey and green is rarely a color combination that is seen today, but in the 1930s, “The Golden Age of Menswear”, and even into the decades of the 1940s and 1950s, it was fairly common. It’s a very sophisticated color combination, one that is a refreshing and more stylish change of pace from the more common color combinations one usually sees being worn with grey.

Booger McFarland – Analyst

Booger was wearing a very dressy navy self-herringbone suit with a light blue pinstripe in it, and it was styled with a peak lapel. His shirt was a rich blue twill, and he wore it with a dark wine ground tie that had light blue and medium blue polka dots in the pattern. His pocket square was blue with a white border.

A note about peak lapels: I’ve discussed in past posts that a peak lapel is a good styling choice with a plaid or window pane suit, but it’s also the lapel one should go with to dress a suit up, particularly if the suit is single breasted. The peak lapel is derived from the Tail Coat, or White Tie, the most formal a man can dress. Therefore, a peak lapel on a suit will always project a more formal appearance than a notch lapel.

John Parry – Rules and Officiating Analyst

John wore a marine blue tic-weave suit. His shirt was medium blue with a white over-check, and he wore it with a rust ground woven silk tie with navy and light blue dots in the pattern and a blue pocket square with a white border. I’ve discussed in past posts the importance of choosing colors that complement or highlight one’s hair, skin, and eye color. John’s suiting outfit is another perfect example of how effective this can be. John has blue eyes and light brown hair, so in this case his suit and shirt highlighted his eye color, and his rust colored tie brought out his hair color. Additionally, the light blue dots in his tie further complemented his eye color.
