Your Inside Scoop to the Suits and Styles of the ESPN Monday Night Football Team
Joe Tessitore – Play by Play Analyst
Joe wore an elegant midnight blue self-herringbone suit with a medium blue and white small-scale check plaid shirt, and he accompanied it with a silver-grey ground woven silk tie that had a generously spaced navy and grey foulard pattern in it. And a white pocket square with a navy border.
This outfit takes a dressy suit and gives it a sportier look by putting it with a check plaid shirt and a large scaled patterned tie. In last week’s post I talked about the importance of wearing patterns that are in scale with one’s physical size and stature. The example I used was how the plaid shirt that Booger wore last Monday worked well specifically for him due to the large scale of the pattern. Conversely, the plaid pattern in Joe’s shirt is of the proper scale that works well for him based on his physical stature. This principle should also be followed when deciding on the width of one’s jacket lapel, shirt collar size, and the width of one’s tie. This is one of the main benefits of having one’s clothes custom made versus buying off the peg.
Booger McFarland – Analyst
Booger wore a power navy bead stripe suit with the stripes ¾” apart. His shirt was a sophisticated blue and white antique stripe, and he accompanied with a gold ground woven silk tie with a navy and light blue geometric pattern in it. His pocket square was blue with a light border.
Historically, pinstripe suits have been associated with the power elite, from the Wall Street masters of the universe, titans of industry, to legendary legal eagles. Pinstripe suits project authority from the wearer – that this is a serious person who knows his business and what he’s talking about. Booger doesn’t need to wear a pinstripe suit to help his confidence in the announcing booth, but it certainly can’t hurt and in fact can only enhance it. Studies have shown that how we dress has a great deal to do with how it makes us feel which can influence how we come across to others.
John Parry – Rules and Officiating Analyst
John wore a medium grey sharkskin suit and a medium blue shirt with a subtle self-herringbone pattern in it. He accompanied it with a elegant woven silk tie in gold, navy, and light blue that had a geometric pattern in it. and a pocket square – blue with a white border.
This is another fabulous outfit that really flatters John’s individual coloring. The main reason for this is due to the medium to low contrast that’s produced between John’s suit and shirt. Then the two primary colors in his tie are essentially his hair color and eye color. Then to top it off, his blue shirt and blue pocket square additionally bring out the color of his eyes.
